Services

Specialties

At Paperbark Editing, have your copyediting, proofreading, and formatting completed to PhD-level perfection.

Paperbark Editing accepts:

  • PhD, Masters, and Honours theses

  • Traditional monograph or practice-led work

  • Essays: analytical, reflective, personal, creative non-fiction

  • Reference lists and bibliographies

  • Website copy

  • Reports and other corporate documents

Proofreading and checking a document's referencing is typically included as part of a copyediting and proofreading service. However, if your referencing is substantially incomplete, you can have all your references formatted to your preferred style guide for an extra service cost. All you need to do is provide the location of your sources and a copy of the style guide.

If you have creative writing as part of a practice-led PhD thesis, then your work can be edited according to your own style and formatting preferences. For example, you may wish to retain comma splices or omit some punctuation for a sense of stream-of-consciousness. Discuss your style with Kelly and provide a list of your rules for consistency.

The Editing Process

  1. Contact Kelly to discuss the particulars of your project and agree on a quote. The more information that you can provide on word count, deadlines, and formatting requirements, the more accurate your quote will be and the faster your document will be ready. A sample of the writing is also appreciated.

  2. Send your document as a Microsoft Word file along with any requests, style guides, or special instructions.

  3. Keep in contact with Kelly during the editing process. She is happy to field any questions and may have questions about your work that will help her make the best corrections. The finalised edits will be presented with Microsoft Word's "track-changes" function, so that every change is transparent for your review. Your work is usually ready within 10 business days unless otherwise negotiated. Rush orders are available for a fee.

  4. Kelly will send you an invoice. Please pay your invoice within two days to avoid delays with receiving your edited work.

  5. Ongoing consultation with Kelly is welcome after you have received your work.

Rates

Each project is quoted and invoiced based on the level of work required, but this simplified rate should give clear expectations on cost ranges.

Because Paperbark Editing is a small business with no administrators, management, or marketing, editing fees are kept low and are competitive.

All prices are quoted in Australian Dollars (AUD).

Copyediting, proofreading, and general formatting (including Reference List) with a two-week turnaround:

   2 cents / word

About bibliographies and reference lists:

While proofreading and minor formatting of references and bibliographies are included in the copyediting fee, your citations might not be complete or coherent. You can request more substantial editing or for an editor to compile your bibliography from scratch, for an extra fee between $50-$1,500, depending on the size of the document and the amount of sources.
